City of Ingolstadt

Ingolstadt is a major city on the Danube in the heart of Bavaria. The city itself has 131,740 inhabitants (as of December 2014), the greater area around it has about half a million people. After Munich, Ingolstadt is the second largest city in Upper Bavaria and the fifth largest city in Bavaria. Since 1989 the city has exceeded the threshold population of 100,000, it is Germany's youngest major city. In 1472, Ingolstadt became the seat of the first Bavarian university, which later distinguished itself as the center of the counter-reformation. Here in 1776, the free-thinking Order of Illuminati was also founded. In Ingolstadt, the Bavarian Purity Law was adopted for beer in 1516. For over 400 years, the city was a Bavarian fortress. First mentioned in 806, the city has a largely preserved historic center.

Economy
For powerful companies from industry, SMEs, trade and commerce, Ingolstadt is a promising location: tradition and innovation complement each other. The engine of the economy is the automotive industry, especially the Audi AG with its headquarters in the City on the Danube and its suppliers, as well as many powerful medium-sized businesses that invest in this production and logistics center. Just over half of gross added value comes from the manufacturing industry. The strength of the processing sector is reflected in very high investments at this location. Aside from the larger industries, the economic activity is accentuated by around 1,500 businesses and over 7,400 employees in trade & crafts. With Audi, Airbus Defence & Space, the Media-Saturn Group etc., Ingolstadt is home to a number of successful global players.

Tourism
Location of the first Bavarian university, followed by the development of a Bavarian fortress and the headquarters of a premium car manufacturer: Ingolstadt has always evolved and reinvented itself. Unusually well-preserved fortifications bear witness to a time when the brave soldiers and citizens have defended town and country. 500 years ago, Ingolstadt was where the Bavarian Duke Wilhelm made a proclamation for the Bavarian Beer Purity Law. With Frankenstein and the Illuminati, Ingolstadt also has a mysterious past. Whether you enjoy the special atmosphere of the old town or explore the shopping malls: Here you will find whatever you need. At Ingolstadt Village, top-quality lifestyle and fashion brands can be found at greatly reduced prices in over 110 boutiques - all year round.
