Eichstätt County

The county of Eichstätt forms the northern part of the government district of Upper Bavaria and embraces the county-free City of Ingolstadt from the north and east. In the south and south-west, the counties of Pfaffenhofen and Neuburg-Schrobenhausen adjoin. With its central location, the counties of four administrative districts are also adjacent: Donau-Ries (Swabia) to the west, Weissenburg-Gunzenhausen and Roth (Middle Franconia) to the northwest and north, Neumarkt (Upper Palatinate) to the northeast, and Kelheim (Lower Bavaria) to the east. The main north-south extension of the county is about 40 km, and about 60 km from east to west.

Economy
The county ranks 3rd in economic power in Germany (ranking of "Focus Money"). Our business location is marked by many medium-sized and some larger industrial firms. The south is structured by trade and industry, characterized by its association with the regional center of Ingolstadt with the Audi automobile company. The north is more of an industry-poor area, dominated by natural landscape conditions and especially by the stone industry, agriculture and tourism. You can find inexpensive and readily available commercial and industrial areas in almost all communities. Low business tax and skilled workers with attractive salary costs are offered by this county.

Tourism
Tourism is an important economic factor in the county of Eichstätt. As the core of the Nature Park Altmühltal, the county has an extremely well-developed tourist infrastructure from apartments to upscale hotels. Located along the Altmühltal bike path, one of the most renowned long-distance cycling routes in Germany, the Nature Park Altmühltal and also the county of Eichstätt are among the most important bike tourism regions in Germany. Nearby the A9 Autobahn, convention tourism here in the heart of Bavaria has developed into a well-established tourist mainstay. The county area is the heart of the Nature Park Altmühltal, the second-largest natural park in Germany. More than 80% of the total county lies within the nature park and offers a preferred recreation and leisure area full of natural beauty. There are bike tours on more than 360 km of developed trails, boat trips on the Altmühl River, climbing to the Jurassic lime rocks of the Frankenalb, and excursion cruises on the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal - just some of the leisure activities. Even in bad weather, many sports and leisure facilities, such as the Aquamarine Water Park in Gaimersheim are worthy of your visit.
